I'll be damned. It IS a diagnostic.

Ya know, @kithpendragon, I recall you mentioning you never thought of Magic Eye posters as a diagnostic, when I mentioned never being able to do them (and now I can!) but I did wonder if I'd just learned how instead of correcting something that kept me from seeing them. I got curious and the internet delivered!

There are several blog articles about it, but that there is a goddamn scientific paper.

If I'd known this in 6th grade when the damn things got popular, I could've fixed my eye when I was still a kid!

If you can't find the shark, you may have a problem!

For the rest of you, my eyes didn't used to line up. It wasn't enough to look obvious, just enough to give me trouble focusing. It also made me clumsier (impaired 3D vision means not knowing quite where things and people are) increased my anxiety in crowds (again, I wouldn't have known for sure where everyone really was) and made me read words all weird (I read them by their general shape, so I spell very badly). I didn't know any of that. That was just me. Until recently.

I've spent most of this year teaching my eyes to work together. My reward: LASIK (hopefully) and I can finally see Magic Eye posters. The LASIK is because I'm old enough to need dual correction and bifocals and progressives are not an option. My eye still tries to pull out of whack, and if I put on glasses that work like an obstacle course, it will.

I'm slow to focus and I still read words all weird. That might get better, or it might not. I'm grateful to have improved as much as I have. I can read and draw again! It still hurts a little because I need that dual correction, but I'm hopeful.

And I could've started this process 30 years ago! If only someone had realized those funny posters tell you how good your stereo vision is!

Welcome back bestie!#I do not know if it was the sleep deprivation or just my regular mush filled brain -#but something about Nie Huaisang showing up in the middle of the siege made me *howl* with laughter.#It's such a 'What the hell is he doing there? *When* the hell did he get here???" moment. And it's so layered!#Because there are two sides of what's happening here. A first time listener/reader has to assume he was dragged into the conflict.#He is not a fighter! He's the indecisive headshaker! He should be at home painting his fans! (<-first time listener voice)#So it immediately feels like the author really needed a bus driver for the plot - or something more is going on.#And something more is indeed going on! Brilliant writing trick to bring back NHS as someone who feels just so out of place.#And oh my god. The way he non-subtly pulls a 'Woah what a cool cave! That we should all get into! Now!'#Bastard was batting his eyelashes and twirling his hair with great speed and force to keep rerolling his persuasion check.#His end game approches and he's here to make sure it falls into place - without breaking character.#The next match WILL be taking place inside of this cave and you WILL all be in attendance!

#ensemble stars #rinniki #enstars comic #SO HAPPY ITS READY now i can continue playing dwarf fortress😭😭😭😭 laughed so hard i cried at my game yesterday. listen to my story boy #we have a shared file between 3 ppl in total and we write records on what goes on. everyone ruling a year and passing the save file along #found a gorlak and i love gorlaks. our dogs wanted to tear him apart so i chained him in a nice new tavern. chained so the dogs wont attack #idecided to build a waterfall thru the tavern so hed be happier; lever connects to watergate that has water flowing from the river. levers #next to the waterfall. i get distracted by a forgotten beast invasion downstairs and go to check on it and when i come back everything is #flooded and my dwarves are scrambling to get to the lever to close the watergate but the water pressure is too strong. at this pt im crying #while im trying to channel water away from the tavern i release the gorlak. i make a hole in the floor. the water finally runs down to #the deep mines where another forgotten beast is killing every dwarf who earlier ran there to get away from the flooding in the fort #my stupid dwarf trick failed but at least my gorlak survived and lives in another tavern now :)#my year of reign ends and i pass the wet sopping fortress and ~30 corpses over to my wife who scrolls thru the fort in horror and tears #ahhh wow. dude life is so good sometimes
